During the peak of its popularity, Columbo, the American detective series, was watched by millions of people around the world. Peter Falk, the actor who played the lead character, personally chose the Peugeot 403 Cabriolet after seeing one in the parking lot of the studios where the TV show was to be filmed. Based on the smaller 203 and introduced in 1955, the Pinin Farina–styled 403 was powered by a 1,468 cc four-cylinder engine with overhead valves. Renowned for its solid construction and supreme reliability. Despite the large build numbers, the two-door cabriolet version was produced in limited quantities, with just over 2,000 made.
