Founded by designer Brooks Stevens in 1964, Excalibur Automobile Corporation built exclusive, hand-built roadsters inspired by the legendary Mercedes-Benz SSK of the 1930s. Each car was handcrafted in limited editions, making every example a collector's item. The Series IV, produced between 1975 and 1979 — with continuous production into the early eighties — represents the pinnacle of the Excalibur concept: timeless pre-war style combined with modern American technology. Under the long hood of this Roadster, a 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to an automatic transmission pulsates, delivering ample power and a sonorous sound befitting its dramatic appearance. Only 159 Roadsters were built out of the entire Series IV production, making this example one of the rarest versions. The rumble seat and semi-electric soft top make this a true summer car that attracts attention at any event. On the outside, this 1981 Excalibur Roadster displays a beige/light yellow paint finish that beautifully accentuates the flowing, organic body lines. The long hood with its characteristic exhaust pipes exiting along the side, the rounded fenders, the free-mounted spare wheels on the rear fenders, and the gleaming chrome bumpers, mirrors, and horn sets give the car its unmistakable pre-war grandeur. The wire wheels with whitewalls complete the picture of a rolling work of art. Inside, the warm brown leather interior sets the tone: the ribbed seats, brown carpeting, and wooden interior panels with engraved details create an atmosphere of handcrafted luxury. The steering wheel with the Excalibur emblem, the classically grouped instruments, and the central center console with automatic gear lever reinforce the feeling that you are sitting in something very special. The combination of the soft yellow-beige exterior with the rich brown leather gives this Roadster a timeless elegance. Are you looking for a 1981 Excalibur Roadster?
