Running and driving, German registration papers, historic vehicle status. Honest description below — the engine has an unresolved issue and I want everyone to know exactly what they are looking at before they travel. THE CAR Lancia Fulvia Coupé 1.3 S, type 818.630, Series 2 First registered 11 March 1971 Chassis no. 002622 (stamped on the flange next to the bonnet on the right, visible with the bonnet open) V4, 1,298 cc, 90 hp / 66 kW, five-speed gearbox Odometer reads 22,117 km — indicated only, total mileage not documented Colour blue; the papers and the appraisal list green, the car was resprayed in Italy roughly ten years ago Tyres 165 R14 74T German registration documents Part I and Part II both present, entered as "Oldtimer" (historic vehicle) Last registered 15 May 2024 on an H-plate, the German historic registration. No valid roadworthiness test, last valid until 05/2026 Classic-analytics Professional-Check appraisal dated 20 January 2025: condition grade 3, replacement value € 17,000. The certificate comes with the car. It is an insurance valuation, not a sale price, and it reflects the situation in January 2025, before the current engine problem. I mention it because it documents the model, chassis number and odometer reading. THE ENGINE — THE HONEST PART The car is sold with two engines: the replacement engine currently fitted, and the original engine, which is dismantled and comes with the car in parts. The fitted engine runs well. If you knew nothing about its history you would think it was a good engine — it starts, idles smoothly and pulls cleanly. At current autumn temperatures with the heater half open it stays within a normal temperature range. Under load and in warm weather it runs away thermally. To narrow the fault down, the following was renewed or done: New radiator New water pump Thermostat and thermoswitch replaced Additional oil cooler fitted New distributor New ignition leads Carburettor re-tuned New big end bearings, followed by another oil and filter changeRuled out: a CO2 test of the coolant was carried out and came back negative. No combustion gases are entering the cooling system, so there is no indication of a failed head gasket or a cracked head. Cooling system, ignition, mixture and fan control have all been checked repeatedly, most recently by an engine specialist, with no findings. What this means: the peripherals have been exhausted. On the evidence, the cause is inside the engine — most likely something that went wrong when this replacement engine was rebuilt, before my time. Whoever buys this car will have to open that engine. I am saying this plainly so that nobody travels here with the wrong expectations. The original engine, which the car came with, was faulty. It is dismantled and comes with the car complete, except for the parts that need replacing anyway. I have compiled a parts list for its rebuild; the material cost is around € 2,200. The buyer gets the list. OTHER WORK CARRIED OUT New exhaust manifold Rocker cover gasket renewed Reversing light switch renewed Engine oil, gearbox oil, air filter, spark plugs and oil filter renewed Anti-roll bar link bushes, brake hose and exhaust mounting renewed New battery clamp (the original was missing) New spare wheel bracket [fitted / included] New door handles including rubber backings, original parts included New floor mats Front seat belts fitted Owner's manual and a German-language workshop manual obtained, both includedEvery part fitted was bought from established Lancia specialists: Rosso Corsa in Italy and Lancia Pieces in France. No no-name parts and no random purchases, and every invoice is on file and comes with the car. KNOWN FAULTS — COMPLETE AS FAR AS I KNOW Engine: thermal problem as described. Cause presumed internal. The engine has to come apart. Body, welding: the front footwell area has been welded, and it was done badly. This is a structural area; the work will most likely have to be redone, and it would be an issue at a future roadworthiness test. Front floor panels: these need replacing. Sills: I cannot judge them with confidence and I have my doubts. Anyone coming to look at the car should put it on a lift. Front strut towers: these look good. Rest of the body: [windscreen frame, wheel arches, battery box, boot floor, lower door edges — as far as it can be assessed] Paint: resprayed in Italy about ten years ago, poor workmanship, visible waviness. Colour differs from the entry in the papers. Electrics: one fuse blows; the dashboard lighting and the lights on the right-hand side do not work. Cause not traced. The rev counter reads roughly 500 rpm high. No valid TÜV, the car is deregistered. WHAT COMES WITH IT German registration documents Parts I and II, the classic-analytics appraisal from January 2025, owner's manual and German workshop manual, the parts list for rebuilding the original engine, a written record of all work I have carried out, the complete set of invoices and order confirmations for every part bought, and every part that was removed from the car. WHO THIS CAR SUITS Someone who wants to rebuild a Fulvia properly anyway. It rolls, it drives, it has German papers and already holds historic vehicle status, which makes re-registration in Germany considerably easier. On top of that come a good number of new parts and two engines to work from: the fitted one, which must be opened, and the dismantled original with a finished parts list. Between the two there is a fair chance of building one good engine. If you are looking for a car you can drive home, this is not it. If you have no workshop and no ability to rebuild an engine yourself, this is not it either. PRICE AND COLLECTION € 5000 firm. Private sale, sold as seen, with all warranties excluded. The faults listed above will be written into the sales contract. Viewing by arrangement in near Berlin, Germany. The car has no valid TÜV and therefore cannot be driven away on its own wheels — please bring a trailer or trade plates. It can be moved on the property, and I will run the engine for anyone who comes to see it. International buyers welcome, but collection is the buyer's responsibility. Payment in cash on collection or by cleared bank transfer before collection. I do not ship and I do not use escrow or shipping agents.
