The characteristic tail fins earned the car the nickname "Heckflosse" (tail fin) and made this sedan an instantly recognizable sight, while beneath the bodywork, Mercedes was primarily focused on safety: the W111 was the world's first production car with a crumple zone and a rigid safety cage. It is precisely this combination of elegance and robustness that makes the Heckflosse beloved by enthusiasts to this day. From 1965 onwards, the 230 S was the sporty top model of the six-cylinder petrol line: the 2.3-liter inline six-cylinder engine with twin carburetors delivers approximately 120 hp and gives the car a surprisingly smooth and powerful character. That power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a manual gearbox, making driving this classic a true experience. This 230 S is in good condition and has been maintained with care. The red paintwork looks stunning against the sleek, timeless lines of the Heckflosse and is beautifully accentuated by the abundant chrome: the wide grille with the classic star on the bonnet, the trim strips along the flanks, and the window surrounds. The whitewall tires around the original hubcaps with the Mercedes star give the whole a delightful retro character and underscore the atmosphere of the sixties. Inside, you will find a black interior that forms a beautiful contrast with the red paint. The spacious, stitched seats in black faux leather, the black dashboard with wood accents and chrome details, the classic white steering wheel, and the matching door panels combine to create an atmospheric and refined whole. Everything here exudes the relaxed luxury for which Mercedes-Benz was renowned in those years. Are you looking for a 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230 S?
