The straight-line crusher and endurance dominator: The Porsche 962C Few competition cars occupy the same exalted position in motorsport history as the Porsche 962C. Conceived to dominate the world's greatest endurance races, it became one of the most successful and technologically advanced sports prototypes ever produced, defining an era of international competition while establishing itself as one of the most coveted racing cars of the modern age! Offered here is chassis 174, one of the final five Porsche 962C examples assembled by the Porsche factory and among the last of only 91 cars produced between 1984 and 1991. Of those, just 16 were factory-built works cars, with the remaining 75 completed for selected customer teams, making every surviving example a significant piece of Porsche's competition heritage. Completed in December 1990 (Factory Production 21/90), chassis 174 remains an exceptionally original example, retaining its matching Porsche Type 956/201 3.0L twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing approximately 750 HP, together with its original Porsche Type 956/01-067 five-speed manual transmission. Engineered for the fastest circuits in the world, the Porsche 962C was capable of speeds exceeding 400 km/h (250 mph), placing it among the most formidable endurance racing machines ever constructed. Delivered new in January 1991 to the Swedish Strindell Racing Team, the car was used exclusively for demonstration purposes before entering one of Europe's most respected private collections. Acquired by renowned Italian collector Luciano Della Noce, it remained carefully preserved under his ownership for more than twenty-two years. In 2014, the car briefly passed to Italian entrepreneur Antonio Maglione before joining the collection of its present owner, a distinguished international collector whose reputation for acquiring and preserving historically important competition cars is widely recognised. Unlike the overwhelming majority of surviving Group C prototypes, chassis 174 has never competed in an official race. Consequently, it has been spared the inevitable repairs, modifications and accident damage associated with period competition, allowing it to remain in an extraordinary state of originality. Since leaving the Porsche factory, the car has travelled fewer than 100 kilometres, an almost unprecedented figure for a Porsche 962 C and one that firmly places this example among the most remarkably preserved in existence. A comprehensive mechanical recommissioning was completed by a leading Porsche specialist in Germany on 29 July 2014 at a cost of 17.255€ ensuring the car's mechanical integrity while respecting its exceptional originality. An expert authentication report has been prepared by Jürgen Barth, one of Porsche's most respected competition authorities. Significantly, Mr. Barth was also the Porsche factory representative who signed the car's original factory release documentation, providing an exceptional level of provenance and historical continuity seldom encountered. The opportunity to acquire a factory-built Porsche 962C and one of the final examples produced is exceptionally rare, preserved in such remarkably original condition, with fewer than 100 kilometres from new, documented provenance and unquestionable authenticity, is rarer still. Combining extraordinary originality, impeccable provenance and immense historical significance, chassis 174 represents one of the finest surviving Porsche 962C examples in private hands. Equally suited to the world's foremost concours events, the most prestigious collections or exhibition in a museum dedicated to motorsport history, it is a landmark automobile that stands among the defining competition cars of the twentieth century. For the discerning collector, this is far more than the acquisition of a legendary racing car, it is the opportunity to secure one of Porsche's most significant endurance prototypes, preserved in a condition that is unlikely ever to be replicated. This version adopts the tone and cadence typically found in the catalogues of leading auction houses and specialist dealers, emphasizing provenance, rarity, originality, historical significance, and collectability while avoiding overt sales language. It is designed to appeal to serious collectors, museums, and institutional buyers. 1990 - 100 km - 995.000€ Please contact us should you require further information. M.C.C. Monaco
